Self-monitoring improves safety

Aesthetic treatments increasingly common. At the same time, customers are asking more questions about patient safety and quality.

at VM Aesthetics isn't just empty rhetoric or mere marketing.

On this page, we clearly explain what self-monitoring and patient safety mean and how they are implemented in practice.

What does self-monitoring mean at a cosmetic clinic?

Self-monitoring means that the clinic continuously monitors and improves its own operations.

This is not about a single legal document, but rather about operating procedures:

  • clear care processes
  • trained staff
  • collegial support that extends even to competitors
  • risk identification
  • handling of deviations
  • continuous improvement

The goal is simple: aesthetic injections must be safe.

Safe aesthetic treatments begin with an assessment

All treatments at VM Aesthetics on a medical assessment:

  • assess the client's situation
  • Let's go over your requests
  • assess the risks
  • the most appropriate treatment is determined

Not everyone is eligible for cosmetic treatments. Careful patient selection is part of ensuring safety.

Who is allowed to perform cosmetic procedures?

Aesthetic injection treatments require medical expertise. Finnish legislation is lagging behind, which is why, for example, filler treatments can be performed even without any formal training or continuing education.

at VM Aesthetics

  • Aesthetic treatments should only be performed by healthcare professionals
  • Filler treatments are performed under hyaluronidase protocol
  • Botulinum toxin treatments are always administered by a physician or an oral and maxillofacial surgeon
  • A nurse may administer botulinum toxin treatments under a doctor's supervision

What materials and equipment do we use?

Safety also depends on what is used.

  • We use CE- and FDA-approved medical devices (e.g., Juvéderm fillers, Profhilo hyaluronic acid products, Skinpen microneedling device)
  • Under the supervision of a physician and an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, we also use prescription medications, such as botulinum toxin and hyaluronidase
  • All medications are purchased at the pharmacy
  • All medical devices are purchased from official importers/distributors

The origin and storage of materials can always be traced.

The Safety of Botox Treatment

Botox treatment is one of the most common cosmetic procedures.

Botulinum toxin is always prescribed based on a medical evaluation conducted by a physician or an oral and maxillofacial surgeon.

This ensures

  • correct dosage
  • proper injection technique
  • understanding facial anatomy

The goal is a natural yet distinctly refreshed look.

Filler Treatments and Risk Management

Filler treatments are safe when performed correctly.

Side effects and risks of filler treatments include, among others

  • swelling
  • bruises
  • rare vascular complications

Because there are risks involved, all filler treatments are carefully planned. Although complications are rare, we are prepared for them by maintaining a state of emergency readiness. Every one of our professionals knows how to respond if something unexpected happens.

Hygiene in Aesthetic Treatments

Aseptic practices are at the heart of nursing:

  • proper hand hygiene
  • disposable supplies
  • Cleaning of treatment rooms after each client

Infection prevention is systematic.

Medication Safety

The storage and use of botulinum toxin and other medicinal products are regulated by law.

at VM Aesthetics

  • Medications are kept under lock and key
  • The storage temperature of medications is systematically maintained at a constant level
  • Medications are administered according to instructions
  • Medication is recorded in Kanta

The Assisdent patient information system is connected to Kanta, and every botulinum toxin treatment, including the dosage, can be found in the patient’s Omakanta account.

What happens if something goes wrong?

All deviations are recorded and analyzed. We have a protocol in place for handling deviations. We are constantly improving our operations to prevent deviations and mistakes.

Preparing for emergencies

An aesthetic clinic’s emergency preparedness is based on several key elements. These elements include, for example

  • up-to-date first-aid supplies available to all professionals
  • medications needed to treat allergic reactions in the medicine cabinet
  • clear, written guidelines for emergencies

The Customer's Role in Safety

Safe care is a team effort.

  • Please be open about your health and any medications you are taking
  • Feel free to ask
  • Follow the pre- and post-treatment instructions

Why is self-monitoring important?

Through ongoing self-monitoring, healthcare professionals ensure that aesthetic treatments are performed safely and correctly, with the client’s well-being as the top priority in every situation.

In Finland, aesthetic treatments are performed by people other than healthcare professionals. Clients should pay attention to the training and experience of service providers, as well as ensure that the clinic’s self-monitoring practices are up-to-date and well-thought-out.

Summary

VM-Aesthetics' operations are based on

  • medical expertise
  • safe care practices
  • continuous improvement and daily self-monitoring

Our goal is to provide a safe treatment experience and a beautiful result.
