Botulinum toxin, or Botox, treatment is a cosmetic or medical injection procedure in which type A botulinum toxin is injected into a muscle.
Common aesthetic indications for Botox treatment include facial wrinkles and other signs of aging. The most well-known medical indications include bruxism, migraines, and excessive sweating.
Treatment results are always temporary.
Botox, or botulinum toxin, blocks the release of a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine from the nerve ending. When the release of acetylcholine is blocked, the muscle treated with Botox does not receive the signal to contract. As a result, it remains relaxed for 3–6 months.
The skin over the relaxed muscle also relaxes. As a result, the expression lines in the treated area disappear for a few months.
If botulinum toxin treatment is used to relax the downward-pulling muscles (e.g., the platysma or DAO muscles), the facial features in the treated area will lift slightly.
Botox treatments may be administered by doctors and dentists who have been trained in the administration of botulinum toxin treatments.
Nurses who are certified to administer botulinum toxin treatments may also perform Botox treatments when they do so in a healthcare facility under the direct supervision of a physician.
Yes. Botox is the world's most potent neurotoxin. However, when administered in the correct dosage, it is an effective and safe medication.
In medical treatments, botulinum toxin is injected into muscles in extremely small doses, and in cosmetic Botox treatments, the substance is used in even smaller amounts.
“What is not poison? All substances are poisonous, and nothing is free of poison. It is only the dose that determines whether a substance is poisonous,” stated Paracelsus, known as the father of toxicology, hundreds of years ago.
Most common risks and side effects:
For most people, the effects of Botox last 3 to 6 months.
The effects usually begin within a few days of the injection and reach their full strength after about two weeks.
Botox aftercare:
Botox is a botulinum toxin product manufactured by Allergan, while Dysport is manufactured by Galderma. Both are high-quality botulinum toxin products. However, there are individual differences. For some clients, one brand produces better and longer-lasting results than the others.
The term "Botox treatment" is used as a synonym for all botulinum toxin treatments. We often refer to a treatment as "Botox" even when it is performed using a product such as Dysport, Xeomin, or Vistabel.
If your doctor has prescribed medical Botox treatment for you, you can receive your botulinum toxin medication with Kela reimbursement (-40%) provided that the initial copayment of 70 euros has been exceeded.
Cosmetic Botox treatments are not covered by Kela.
If you suffer from migraines, excessive sweating, or any other health condition that can be treated with Botox, here’s what you can do:
Please note: Kela reimbursement for Botox treatments for bruxism will be discontinued in the spring of 2025.
Yes.
The first medical botulinum toxin treatment is almost always performed using the clinic’s own product. Follow-up treatments can also be performed using VM-Esthetics products.
Botox treatment is a safe and well-tolerated procedure when performed by a doctor or dentist. However, it is not suitable for everyone.
Botox is most commonly used to treat horizontal forehead lines, lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines), and lines around the eyes.
Botox is also suitable for treating migraines, bruxism, and excessive sweating.
The treatment usually feels like small pricks or pinches. The discomfort is minimal and lasts only a moment.
The effects usually begin within a few days of treatment. The most noticeable results appear after about 1–2 weeks.
One treatment session is sufficient, but to maintain the results, the treatment is usually repeated every 3 to 6 months.
Yes, you can. The procedure usually doesn't require any recovery time, and you can get back to your daily routine right away.
The treatment results may be uneven or too intense if the dosage is not balanced. For this reason, the treatment is carefully planned and monitored two weeks after the procedure.
The natural look depends on the dosage. When administered in moderation, Botox smooths out wrinkles without making facial expressions look stiff.
Botox is suitable for adults who want to reduce expression lines or prevent them from deepening.
Profhilo is an injectable treatment that involves the administration of hyaluronic acid into the skin. It is not a filler and does not alter facial features. Its primary purpose is to improve the skin’s moisture balance, firmness, and elasticity.
No, there isn't.
The active ingredient in Profhilo is hyaluronic acid, just like many other fillers. However, Profhilo does not plump the skin or alter facial features.
Fillers can be used to enhance and sculpt facial features. Profhilo deeply hydrates large areas of skin and supports collagen synthesis.
The treatment causes mild discomfort. The sensation is often described as a pinching or mild stinging sensation. The procedure is quick, and injections are given in only a few places.
The first changes may be visible a few days after treatment, but the most noticeable results will become apparent in the weeks following the course of treatment. The final results can be assessed 2–4 weeks after the course of treatment.
Profhilo is typically administered as a series of two—sometimes three—treatments, spaced about four weeks apart.
Once the course of treatment is complete, the results can be maintained with individual treatments.
The treatment results typically last 6–9 months. The effect gradually wears off over time.
Yes. Profhilo can also be administered to the skin on the neck. When treating the neck, injections are given at more sites than in a Profhilo treatment for the face.
Profhilo Structura is a newer version of the Profhilo treatment, in which the product is injected into the fatty tissue—particularly in the lower face—using a cannula.
Traditional Profhilo has a broad effect on skin hydration, firmness, and elasticity. Structura focuses more on the lower face and on supporting the fat pads beneath the skin.
Swelling, redness, or small bruises may appear in the treatment area. Small bumps may appear at the injection sites, but these usually subside quickly.
Yes. Profhilo is what’s known as a “lunch-break treatment,” and most clients return to their normal daily activities immediately after the procedure.
Profhilo is suitable for people who want to boost their skin’s moisture and elasticity without altering their facial features.
It is particularly effective for supporting the lower part of the face and preventing sagging of the jawline.
Some of the effects may be visible immediately, but the final results will become apparent over the following weeks of treatment.
The results typically last for about 6 to 12 months, after which the effect gradually wears off.
Filler treatments are injectable treatments in which hyaluronic acid is injected into the skin. They can be used to plump the skin, smooth out fine lines, and contour facial features.
Filler treatments are used, for example, to reshape the lips, enhance the cheekbones, define the jawline, and reduce and correct fine lines, such as nasolabial folds.
The treatment usually causes mild discomfort. The sensation is often described as a tingling or a feeling of pressure. Most products contain an anesthetic, which makes the treatment very tolerable.
The results are visible immediately after the treatment. The final results are usually assessed 1–2 weeks later, once the swelling has subsided and the filler has settled.
The duration of the results varies depending on the treatment area. On the lips, the effects often last 6–12 months, while on the cheeks and jawline, the results can last 12–24 months.
One treatment session is almost always sufficient. However, the results can be refined and maintained later with individual follow-up treatments.
The most common side effects are swelling, redness, tenderness, and small bruises. The treated area may initially feel slightly tight or uneven. These symptoms are usually temporary.
Swelling typically lasts from a few days to two weeks. Swelling of the lips can be quite severe during the first few days.
Local anesthetics can cause swelling.
Yes, you can. Most people return to their normal daily routine immediately after treatment. However, visible swelling and bruising may affect how you choose to schedule your treatment.
The final results are usually visible after 2–4 weeks, once the swelling has completely subsided and the filler has settled into the tissue.
Yes. If necessary, hyaluronic acid-based fillers can be broken down using the enzyme hyaluronidase.
The natural look depends on the treatment plan as well as the quality and dosage of the filler. When performed with restraint, filler treatments enhance facial features without making the expression look unnatural.
Filler treatments are suitable for adults who want to add volume, smooth out fine lines, or enhance their facial features.
Filler removal involves breaking down a hyaluronic acid-based filler using an enzyme called hyaluronidase.
Removal is performed, for example, if the final result does not meet expectations, the filler has shifted to the wrong spot, or unevenness has formed in the area.
This rare vascular complication is treated by promptly removing the filler.
Hyaluronidase is injected directly into the area where the filler is located. The enzyme begins to break down the filler rapidly.
The removal may feel like a prickling, stinging, or burning sensation. Some people find it even more intense than the original filler treatment, especially in sensitive areas such as the lips.
The effects begin quickly, and changes may be visible within 24 to 48 hours. The final outcome is assessed once the swelling has subsided.
Sometimes a single treatment is enough, but multiple treatments may be necessary if there is a large amount of filler, if it has a dense texture, or if it is in multiple layers.
The most common symptoms are swelling, redness, tenderness, and bruising. These symptoms are usually temporary.
Yes, hyaluronidase can cause an allergic reaction in rare cases. For this reason, an allergy test is often performed before removing the filler.
It is not recommended to apply a new filler right away. The area should be allowed to heal, and the next treatment should be performed at a later date.
It is not always possible to remove all of the filler material in a single session. The final result is often not assessed until several days or weeks later.
Yes, you can, but swelling or bruising may be visible, so many people schedule their treatment for the weekend, for example.
When performed by a professional, the treatment is safe, but as with all injection treatments, there are risks involved, which will be discussed before the procedure.
Thread lifts involve threads placed under the skin; their tiny barbs grip the tissue and gently lift it upward. A thread lift is a non-surgical procedure designed to support the tissue.
Thread lifts are particularly suitable for treating the lower part of the face, especially the cheeks and jawline, when the tissues have begun to sag.
Hamster bags often respond very well to treatment with vermicompost.
Fillers plump up the tissue, while thread lifts lift it. Thread lift treatment does not involve filling, but rather supports and repositioning the tissue.
Tendinitis treatment is performed under local anesthesia, so pain is usually well managed. During the procedure, you may feel pressure, tightness, or a pulling sensation.
Some of the effects are visible immediately as the tension threads lift the tissue. The final result develops over the course of several weeks.
The effects of the injections usually last for several months or even more than a year. The results gradually diminish over time.
After the treatment, your skin may feel tight, sensitive, or uneven. This is normal and usually subsides within a few days or a week.
Yes. After laser treatment, your skin may look uneven or tight. This is part of the healing process. The unevenness will smooth out over time.
It’s often possible, but swelling, bruising, or a feeling of tightness may be visible. That’s why many people schedule their treatment for the weekend, for example.
You should avoid vigorous facial movements, massages, and strenuous physical activity during the first few days. It is also recommended that you avoid saunas and alcohol.
Possible side effects include swelling, bruising, tenderness, and unevenness. These symptoms are usually temporary.
Thread lifts are suitable for people with mild to moderate tissue sagging who wish to postpone a surgical facelift.
Harmonyca is an injectable treatment that combines hyaluronic acid and calcium hydroxylapatite. The treatment provides immediate plumping effects and supports the skin’s own collagen synthesis over the long term.
Harmonyca is particularly well-suited for treating the lower face—such as the cheeks and jawline—when the goal is to firm the skin while simultaneously building up tissue support.
Traditional fillers are primarily hyaluronic acid gels, and they provide immediate volume to the tissues. Harmonyca combines this volumizing effect with a collagen-stimulating effect that develops over the weeks following treatment.
The procedure usually feels like a pinch or pressure. The discomfort is mild, and anesthesia can be used if necessary.
Some of the results are visible immediately after the treatment. The final results develop over the course of several weeks.
The effects of Harmonyca treatment typically last for about 12 to 18 months. The results gradually diminish over time.
Often, a single treatment session is sufficient. If necessary, the results can be enhanced with other cosmetic treatments.
Swelling, redness, tenderness, and minor bruising may occur in the treated area. These symptoms are usually temporary.
The final result is usually assessed a few weeks later, once the swelling has subsided and the long-term effects have begun to develop.
Yes, you can. Most people return to their normal daily routine immediately after treatment. Swelling may be noticeable at first.
It is recommended that you avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol, and saunas for the first 24 hours. You should also avoid touching the treated area.
Harmonyca is ideal for people who want to firm up sagging facial features and achieve both immediate and long-term results without surgery.
Microneedling is a treatment in which small, controlled micro-injuries are created in the skin using fine needles. This triggers the skin’s natural healing process.
Microneedling is suitable for treating acne scars, uneven skin texture, fine lines, and a dull complexion, as well as for general skin rejuvenation.
The treatment may feel like a prickling sensation or a mild stinging sensation. If necessary, an anesthetic cream is applied to reduce any discomfort.
Microneedling does not produce immediate results. The effects develop gradually over the course of the treatment series and in the weeks that follow.
The best results are usually achieved through a series of treatments. Treatments are performed several times according to an individualized plan.
The duration of the results varies from a few months to a year. The effects can be prolonged with regular maintenance treatments.
The skin is often red immediately after treatment and may feel warm or tight. These reactions are common and temporary.
The redness typically lasts 24–48 hours, sometimes a few days.
Yes, you can, but the redness may be noticeable, so many people schedule their treatment for the evening or the weekend, for example.
It is recommended that you avoid touching your skin, applying makeup, using the sauna, and engaging in strenuous physical activity for the first 24 hours.
The most common symptoms are redness, tenderness, and a tightening sensation. These are normal and temporary reactions.
Microneedling is suitable for people who want to boost skin renewal and improve its overall appearance without injections.
Mesotherapy is a treatment in which small amounts of active ingredients are administered into the skin using fine needles. The treatment uses ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, vitamins, and amino acids.
Mesotherapy is suitable for treating the face, neck, and under-eye area when the goal is to support the skin’s natural regenerative processes and improve its condition and appearance.
Mesotherapy usually feels like a pinching sensation or a mild stinging. The treatment is generally well tolerated, and a numbing cream can be used if necessary.
Mesotherapy does not usually produce immediate results. The effects develop gradually over the course of a series of treatments.
The best results are usually achieved through a series of treatments. Typically, treatments are administered 2–5 times at intervals of a few weeks.
The duration of the results varies, but the effects are often maintained through regular treatments, for example every 3 to 6 months.
Small injection marks and bumps may remain on the skin. You may also experience swelling, redness, and tenderness, and sometimes even bruising.
Minor swelling and bruising usually go away within a few hours or a day. Bruises may last longer.
Yes, you can. Most people return to their normal daily routine immediately after treatment, unless visible injection marks prevent this.
It is recommended that you avoid wearing makeup, using the sauna, engaging in strenuous exercise, and drinking alcohol for 24 to 72 hours.
The most common side effects are swelling, redness, tenderness, and small bruises. These reactions are normal and temporary.
Mesotherapy is suitable for people who want to support skin renewal, boost collagen production, and are able to commit to a course of treatments.
Polynucleotide therapy is a form of mesotherapy in which DNA-derived molecules are introduced into the skin. The treatment accelerates the skin’s repair processes and promotes comprehensive skin regeneration.
Polynucleotide therapy is particularly suitable for treating the skin on the face, neck, and under the eyes when the goal is to stimulate the skin’s natural repair processes and improve its condition and appearance.
Fillers plump up facial features, whereas polynucleotides do not alter facial features. The effect of polynucleotides is based on stimulating collagen production and accelerating skin regeneration.
The treatment usually feels like a pinching or stinging sensation. The discomfort is brief, and an anesthetic cream is used if necessary.
Polynucleotide therapy does not produce immediate results. The first changes become apparent within a few weeks, and the most noticeable effects develop approximately 6–12 weeks after the completion of the treatment course.
The best results are usually achieved with a course of treatments. Typically, 3 treatments are administered every 2–4 weeks.
The results usually last about 6–9 months. After that, the effects can be maintained with follow-up treatments.
Small injection marks and bumps may remain on the skin. In addition, swelling, redness, and tenderness may occur, and sometimes bruising as well.
Minor swelling and bruising usually subside within a few hours or a day. Bruises may last for more than a week, especially in sensitive areas.
Yes, you can. Most people return to their normal daily routine right away. However, swelling or bruising may still be visible.
It is recommended that you avoid wearing makeup, using the sauna, engaging in strenuous exercise, and drinking alcohol for the first 24 hours.
The most common side effects are swelling, redness, tenderness, and bruising. These are normal and temporary reactions.
Polynucleotides are suitable for people who want to boost their skin’s natural renewal process, stimulate collagen production, and reduce dark circles and puffiness under the eyes.
