How do filler treatments work?
The planning of filler treatments begins with a relaxed consultation and the planning of any necessary procedure. The injection usually causes minimal discomfort. The sensation is often compared to a pinch. Injecting the filler into the tissue feels mostly like pressure—it doesn’t hurt, but it isn’t particularly pleasant either.

A separate consultation visit is not required. We consult with all clients before starting filler treatment in any case, and if it is determined during the consultation that the treatment will not be performed, the visit automatically becomes a free consultation.

Injection
Following the consultation, we proceed with the procedure. The skin in the treatment area is cleaned. Most fillers contain lidocaine, a local anesthetic that reduces pain and discomfort associated with the procedure. At Dr. Ville Männistö’s clinic, local anesthesia is also available.
The filler is injected into the target area in small doses using either a needle or a cannula. During the procedure, the area may be gently shaped by hand to ensure that the filler is distributed evenly throughout the tissue and that the features remain natural.
After filler treatments
After filler treatments, the skin is cleaned and the injection sites are checked. Small injection marks may remain on the skin. These usually fade quickly.
Swelling and redness often develop in the treated area. Tenderness, firmness, and tightness in the treated area, as well as minor bruising, are also possible. All of these side effects are normal. They are temporary and last from a few days to a couple of weeks.
Unless the swelling bothers you, you can return to your normal routine after the procedure. However, you should avoid touching your face, strenuous exercise, alcohol, and saunas for at least the first 24 hours.
All aftercare instructions are reviewed verbally during the appointment. The client also receives written aftercare instructions.
