Full-Face Botox: 7 Things That Set It Apart from Regular Botox Treatments

Full-face Botox is a customized botulinum toxin treatment that targets the entire face and, if necessary, the neck as well. In addition to the traditional forehead area, full-face Botox can also be used to treat, for example, the lips and corners of the mouth, the nose, the chin, or the platysma muscle in the neck.

The goal of full-face Botox is not merely to smooth out wrinkles. The treatment can also be extended to the masseter muscles, the jawline, and even the neck. A full-face Botox treatment is tailored to the client’s initial condition and aesthetic goals.

Before and after

Results vary from person to person. A treatment plan is always developed based on the client’s initial condition and goals.

1. Full-face Botox treats the entire face, not just the forehead

Most people associate Botox treatments with forehead wrinkles, frown lines, and crow’s feet. These make up the classic Botox treatment, which is the most common aesthetic botulinum toxin treatment worldwide—and at VM Aesthetics.

Full-face Botox treatment takes this concept a step further. The treatment plan takes into account the entire face and, if necessary, the neck as well. In addition to traditional treatment areas, Botox can be used, for example, to gently lift the eyebrows, treat the nose area, correct a “lip flip” of the upper lip, lift the corners of the mouth, relax the jaw muscles, treat the chewing muscles, and treat the neck area.

"Full-face Botox" doesn't mean that botulinum toxin is injected haphazardly all over the face.

2. Each full-face treatment is customized

Full-face Botox treatments are not always the same. Facial anatomy, muscle strength, facial expressions, and signs of aging vary from person to person. That is why Botox treatments should also be tailored to each individual.

During the consultation, we assess facial proportions, muscle activity, and the areas that will benefit most from Botox treatment. For some, the focus is on lines in the upper face; for others, it’s on the jawline, the corners of the mouth, or the neck. Most often, it’s a combination of several small details.

There is no standardized treatment protocol or injection map: the areas treated vary slightly for each client. The main idea behind full-face Botox is to view the face as a whole. The treatment is planned and carried out individually based on the client’s facial features, age-related changes, and aesthetic goals.

No two clients are alike. Nor are any two full-face Botox treatments alike.

3. Full-face treatment can focus on the lower face

Botulinum toxin treatments for the upper and lower face have different goals. On the forehead, botulinum toxin works to reduce muscle contractions caused by strong facial expressions, which reduces wrinkling of the skin and smooths out fine lines.

When it comes to the lower face, Botox works a little differently. The goal is not to paralyze muscle function but to strategically relax the muscles that pull the face downward. For example, the DAO muscle, which pulls the corners of the mouth downward, or the platysma muscle, which pulls the lower face downward, can be relaxed just enough to allow the upward-pulling muscles to work more effectively than before.

Botulinum toxin treatments for the lower face require more skill from the practitioner than those for the upper face. Too high a dose or even a slightly incorrect injection site can affect, for example, a person’s smile or the function of the mouth.

In the upper face, fine lines are smoothed out. In the lower face, the forces of the muscles pulling upward and downward are balanced. This is where the greatest magic of full-face Botox lies.

4. Full-face treatment is more personalized than traditional Botox treatment

Full-face Botox is not a single injection technique but a customized treatment plan. All areas of the face can be treated, though this is not always necessary. The treatment plan is tailored based on the aesthetic changes that will benefit the client.

In addition to the traditional Botox treatment targeting three areas, a full-face Botox procedure can be combined with, for example, a Nefertiti lift, a brow lift, a lip flip, or masseter Botox. The final result is achieved through carefully selected Botox treatments and the correct dosage.

The idea is not to perform as many different types of Botox treatments as possible during a single visit. It is more important to choose the treatments that bring out the client’s unique aesthetic.

Full-face Botox is like a jigsaw puzzle. When the right pieces fall into place, the whole picture is beautiful and clear.

5. More botulinum toxin, yet natural-looking results

A full-face Botox treatment can involve the use of up to 200 units of botulinum toxin. That sounds like a lot, but in practice, the dose is distributed evenly across several different areas so that all parts of the face are relaxed in the same proportion.

For this reason, full-face Botox does not result in an expressionless or “frozen” appearance. On the contrary, the goal is to preserve the face’s natural expression and movement while balancing muscles that are too active. The end result should make the face look relaxed and balanced—not like it has been treated.

Furthermore, Botox is not distributed evenly throughout the face. Some muscles require more of the medication, while others require less. A safe full-face Botox treatment requires a thorough understanding of facial anatomy, a personalized treatment plan, and excellent injection technique.

You can think of Botox treatment like spring cleaning. Tidying up just one corner can draw attention to the mess in the other areas. In the same way, smoothing out a single wrinkle can highlight the fact that other parts of the face haven’t been treated. It may sound counterintuitive, but extensive Botox treatment often yields a more natural-looking result than a limited one.

6. The spotlight on full-face Botox is on the individual

Although full-face Botox treatment is a standardized treatment package, each treatment is tailored individually from the very beginning. Even among two people of the same age, muscle function, facial anatomy, and aesthetic goals can vary significantly. For this reason, the injection sites or botulinum toxin doses for two people of the same age are never exactly the same.

For some, the focus may be on the forehead and the area around the eyes; for others, it may be on the jawline, the corners of the mouth, or the neck. Sometimes the best results are achieved with just a few carefully selected injections; other times, all the typical Botox treatment areas are addressed.

Well-planned full-face Botox doesn't draw attention to itself. What catches the eye is that the face looks rested and natural. Every treatment begins with a thorough consultation, not with the practitioner pulling out a pre-determined injection plan.

Full-face Botox is a success when the spotlight is on you, not on the bottle of botulinum toxin.

7. Full-face Botox is suitable for people of all ages

Many people mistakenly believe that full-face treatments are intended only for the treatment of advanced signs of aging. In reality, the treatment can be tailored in many different ways depending on the client’s age, facial anatomy, and aesthetic goals.

For people in their 30s, the goal of full-face Botox may be to prevent the first signs of aging and reduce the appearance of pores using micro-Botox. For people in their 40s, 50s, and 60s, the treatment often targets fine lines and signs of aging around the nose, lips, jawline, and neck.

Full-face Botox is also suitable for people who have undergone a surgical facelift. Botox treatment enhances the results of the facelift and refreshes the appearance without altering the shape or size of the face.

Age isn't a deciding factor. Of course, people under 23 don't really benefit from cosmetic Botox treatments.

Full-face Botox does not take into account the year of birth of an adult woman or man. The treatment is planned based on the face, not on age.

What does the research evidence say about full-face Botox?

Full-face botulinum toxin treatment is not a single medical injection technique but rather a treatment philosophy. Therefore, the research evidence is not based on a single method but on numerous studies and expert consensus regarding the use of botulinum toxin.

at VM Aesthetics does not mean a pre-determined injection map or a one-size-fits-all treatment. Rather, full-face Botox is a way to design a comprehensive botulinum toxin treatment based on the client’s initial condition and aesthetic goals. Two full-face Botox treatments can look very different, even though their goal is the same: a natural and balanced result.

How are the results of full-face Botox maintained?

The effects of the first full-face Botox treatment usually last 3–4 months. After that, muscle function gradually returns to normal. If the client is satisfied with the results, the treatment can be repeated.

For many clients, the results of the treatment begin to last longer when full-face Botox is repeated regularly. The facial muscles gradually become accustomed to the effects of botulinum toxin, and in addition, the practitioner administering the treatment gains an increasingly detailed understanding of the client’s facial anatomy, muscle function, and response to previous treatments.

It is often the second and third treatment sessions that allow for a more precise treatment plan. Injection sites, dosages, and treatment areas can be fine-tuned based on previous treatment results, resulting in a natural-looking outcome that also lasts longer than before.

at VM Aesthetics regular clients maintain the results of their full-face Botox treatments by coming in for treatment three times a year. However, the appropriate interval between treatments is always determined on an individual basis, as the duration of the botulinum toxin’s effects varies from person to person.

The best full-face Botox results aren't achieved in a single session. They develop gradually as I get to know the client and their face.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does "full-face Botox" mean?

Full-face Botox is a personalized botulinum toxin treatment that targets the entire face and, if necessary, the neck as well. The goal of the treatment is not merely to correct individual wrinkles, but to define the contours of the face and highlight a person’s most beautiful features.

What is the difference between full-face Botox and a regular Botox treatment?

Traditional Botox treatments typically target forehead wrinkles, frown lines, and crow’s feet. With full-face Botox, the face is viewed as a whole, and the treatment can be combined with procedures such as a brow lift, lip flip, DAO Botox, masseter Botox, and a Nefertiti lift, depending on the client’s needs.

Which areas can be treated with full-face Botox?

The treatment may include, for example, the forehead, the glabellar lines, the corners of the eyes, bunny lines, a brow lift, a lip flip, as well as the DAO and masseter muscles. However, not all of these areas are treated for every client.

How much botulinum toxin is used in a full-face treatment?

In VM Aesthetics’ full-face Botox treatment, up to 200 Allergan units of botulinum toxin may be used, if necessary. The amount used always depends on the client’s individual goals.

How long do the effects of full-face Botox last?

The effects of the first treatment usually last 3–4 months. When repeated regularly, the results last longer for many clients. Many regular clients come in for maintenance treatments two or three times a year.

What is the difference between full-face Botox and a Botox facelift?

A full-face Botox treatment is a botulinum toxin treatment for the entire face, allowing multiple areas of the face and neck to be treated in a single visit. A Botox facelift is an even more extensive treatment that focuses specifically on lifting the face and neck. A Botox facelift can be combined with treatments such as the Nefertiti lift, Barbie Botox, DAO Botox, brow lift, and lip flip.

Can full-face Botox be combined with other treatments?

Yes. If necessary, full-face Botox can be combined with treatments such as Profhilo, dermal fillers, or Harmonyca. The treatment plan is always tailored to each individual.

Who is a good candidate for full-face Botox?

Full-face Botox is suitable for both women and men who want to prevent or treat facial signs of aging in a comprehensive manner. However, Botox treatment is not recommended for people under the age of 23, and it is never performed on anyone under the age of 18.

How much does full-face treatment cost?

A full-face Botox treatment at VM-estetiikka costs €790. The price includes a personalized treatment plan and a comprehensive Botox treatment using up to 200 Allergan units of botulinum toxin.
