Botox, or botulinum toxin treatment, is an injection therapy administered with a prescription medication. The procedure relaxes the muscles into which botulinum toxin, or Botox, is injected.

Botox treatment is administered into the muscle (or into the skin in the case of Microbotox and hyperhidrosis treatments). As the muscle relaxes, the fine lines and wrinkles on the surface of the muscle are also smoothed out.

The effects of Botox treatment are temporary. Results begin to appear 4–14 days after treatment and last, on average, 3–6 months.

Botox treatments may be administered by physicians and dentists, or by nurses working under their direct and immediate supervision.

Botulinum toxin treatment for the masticatory muscles significantly alleviates the symptoms of many people who grind their teeth. The treatment targets both the masseter and temporalis muscles, and sometimes also the muscles in the neck and shoulder area. Migraine
