Botox, or botulinum toxin treatment, is an injection therapy administered with a prescription medication. The procedure relaxes the muscles into which botulinum toxin, or Botox, is injected.

Botox treatment is administered into the muscle (or into the skin in the case of Microbotox and hyperhidrosis treatments). As the muscle relaxes, the fine lines and wrinkles on the surface of the muscle are also smoothed out.

The effects of Botox treatment are temporary. Results begin to appear 4–14 days after treatment and typically last 3–6 months on average.

Botox treatments may be administered by physicians and dentists, or by nurses working under their direct and immediate supervision.
