Thread lift treatment is based on two mechanisms. On the one hand, the threads mechanically lift the skin. On the other hand, the threads stimulate the skin’s fibroblasts to produce new collagen and elastin. Facial features are gently lifted. The skin becomes firmer and more elastic than before.
Cog threads are sutures made of polydioxanone (PDO) that feature small barbs.
The barbed threads are placed beneath the skin using a blunt-tipped cannula. The tiny barbs anchor securely within the tissue. As the surgeon gently repositions the thread, the surrounding tissue is lifted, helping to restore a firmer and more defined appearance.
Thread lift is performed under local anesthesia. The procedure doesn't hurt, but it's not exactly a pampering treatment either.

The sutures are inserted into the tissue using a needle or cannula. The sensations experienced during the procedure are most often described as pressure, tightness, or a pulling sensation.

After the thread lift, the skin is cleaned and the treated area is checked. There are often small marks left on the skin, but these fade quite quickly.
Swelling, redness, and tenderness almost always occur in the treated area. Bruising, a feeling of tightness, and initial unevenness are also possible. All of the above side effects are normal. They typically last from a few days to about two weeks.
Unless the swelling bothers you, you can resume at least some of your normal daily routines after the procedure. You should avoid touching the treated area, strenuous exercise, alcohol, and saunas for at least the first 24 hours.
